The Big Push

February 27, 2010 Writing

Tonight begins my “Vacation” from my regular day-job. That means for the next week, I get to focus on what I would love to make money doing as opposed to what I have to do in order to make money. Huge difference right there.

I will be working to complete a “final edit” of Hedged In before my vacation is over on March 8th. I plan to make small posts on the Underground Writers blog daily in order to keep track on my progress. To put things into perspective, I’m going to say I’m on page 58 / 204 of editing notes. After editing notes, there will be a rewrite, a second run of editing notes, and the minor corrections that follow. Everything prior to the current set of editing notes I’m going to call 20% of the work. This section of editing notes will constitute another 20, rewrite is 20, second run as 20, and final corrections and formatting as the final 20. That puts my current progress at 25.7% complete.

I have a second project that also requires my attention this week. I plan to complete a final edit of my short story, “Blood and Puppies”. This piece is 7 pages in length and has already gone through initial draft (20%), editing (20%), second draft (20%), and the critiquing stages (20%). As such, I only have the final editing (20%) to accomplish. So I’m pegging my current progress on this one at 80% completion. I plan to resubmit it to the UW for March. Hopefully get some feedback on my changes, and see if there’s any tweaks I’ll have to apply before market hunting.

I still have 2 pieces to critique: Randy’s The Sons of Brightwill, Chapter 1 & 2 (22 pages), and Heidi’s Remedy, Chapter 1 (17 pages). I also suspect I’ll be receiving another round of papers from the UW to critique for March sometime over the course of the week.

Blackfoot is being put on hold this week until after I’ve completed Hedged In. As that novel is still in the writing stage, around the 3rd of 15 chapters, that puts it at 4% complete. Woo.

If I’m going to get all of this done, I’m going to have to make a schedule, and stick by it. With the flexibility required by a certain situation, I don’t know how close I’ll be able to stick to it, but we’ll see. I’ve about an hour left tonight, so I better start cracking at one of these pieces.

Sounds like you have a busy week ahead of you. I need to post some updates to the UW site as well. I am afraid I’ve forgotten my password again.

    Good luck with the editing.
