Postering Sudbury
March 10, 2010 Letters and Light, Published, Writing
A big event is looming on the horizon, one that promises to challenge writers world-wide. Ok, maybe not professional writers, but the rest of us. Those of us that would like to be professional, and those of us that like being hobbyists. This also challenges anyone that ever said “I could write a better movie than ______” or “I could write a better tv episode than ______”. The event: Script Frenzy.
Script Frenzy occurs every April in cities around the world. The challenge is to write 100 pages of script in 30 days, whether that be movie, play, tv, radio, or comic book, it doesn’t matter. This is the chance to play around with that zombie plot, or those manga ideas you’ve had popping into your mind, but never felt it was the right place to get it out. This month, April, is the chance to take that leap, and hammer out a massive chunk of dialogue and art/stage/screen direction.
I got our license and started putting up the posters for the Sudbury area today. Sudbury has some very particular by-laws about postering, many of which I’m not a fan of, but we must respect municipal by-laws. I managed about 25 posters today, about half of what I’m allowed to put up. I’m saving 10-posters for the Lasalle from Barrydowne to Somers stretch, and need a different posting material to get the remaining 15 up on the opposite side of Paris from John to Regent.
So far, I’ve just been using the official SF posters. I plan to get some of our region’s specific poster up as well, but I’ll be focussing those more on indoor locations: grocery stores, book stores, libraries, coffee shops, colleges, university, etc. There are a good sized handful of people that are helping get the indoor posters out, so I want to send a big thank-you out to each and every one of them.
The planning for the event has been going smoothly, and I definitely look forward to the first big event of the season: March 28th, Buddha Backroom Brainstorming! The Laughing Buddha has allowed us to use a portion of their backroom for our meet & greet, which I think is going to be a heck of a blast. We’ve got some ideas for ice breakers and the like. We are hoping to bring in a bit of different group from NaNo, as well as hopefully get a lot of our WriMos to come out to this event as well.
NaNoWriMo 2009 was a phenomenal success this past year, greatly surpassing my own expectations. I would have been impressed with half the numbers we managed this past year. Do I expect such a huge turnout with Script Frenzy? Of course not. The two events, although related, are vastly different animals. I’d be happy if we had 10 participants in Script Frenzy this year. That’d be huge year-over-year growth from last year. If we got 15 active participants, I’d be esctatic.
If you’re reading this and want to get involved, hop on over to the Script Frenzy website ( http://www.scriptfrenzy.org ), and sign up. If you have a NaNo account, it’s the same username and password. Make sure you set your home region so you can get in on all the crazy events that are being planned. I’m looking forward to our “Dusk til Dawn” write-in near the end of April, but that’s just me.
Right, I need to calm down. Just getting really excited about April. For my other projects, I’m running at a crawl. I managed a brief 300 words of a scene from something this past Monday. Not sure what I can do with it, but I’ll figure something out. It hops into the idea file.
I’m currently doing up 4 treatments in genres that I don’t generally write in. Someone suggested that in order for me to improve my writing, I need to try some different things once in a while. So here I go, I’m going to try writing a little bit of science fiction and fantasy. See if they take me anywhere, or if I can push into something different. I’ve also been told I should try my hand at a little bit of Romance, but I’m not overly comfortable with that genre.
I’ve managed to hack apart a good chunk of the critiques that I need to have completed for a couple of weeks from now. Guess that means I’m a little ahead of my required reading. Of course, I zipped ahead on that because I have a lot of flash fiction to read through and vote upon. My own piece was submitted for that, and I’m eager to see what kind of feedback I get all around. Going to be getting feedback from the Monday Night Writing Pack, the Underground Writers, and Shock Totem Magazine‘s forums. Will be interesting to see what a wider audience thinks of my work.
Anyhow, I’ve got more work to do before I can turn in for the night. Catch up with everyone later!

You know this made me think of a quote. was something like: “All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

I use the identical theme on my own but for whatever nutty reason it looks to load more quickly on this web site despite the fact that yours provides a little more material. Have you been operating any individual plugins or widgets that will speed it up? If you could possibly give the plug ins so that I would be able to use these in my internet site so twilight breaking dawn supporters could watch twilight eclipse online trailers and videos more rapidly I’d personally always be pleased – regards ahead of time
I am new to blogging and actually enjoyed your site. I am going to bookmark your website and keep checking you out. Thanks for sharing your website.
