Another WIP

July 8, 2010 Events, Writing

Yeah, I remember what I wrote last week. I had mentioned that I wanted to finish off another one of my WIPs that I’ve already had critiqued. I had floated across the idea of completing “Blood & Puppies.” Well, obviously, I got side-tracked. I began putting together the horror review portion of the site, and integrated the Amazon store. I’m not really expecting to make anything off the Amazon store, but if I’m going to link to Amazon anyways, may as well take the chance of making some coin off it.

Other than the review section, I began brainstorming and outlining a new piece. So far it looks like I should be able to do it as a short story. I’m going to take a different spin on the “haunted doll” idea. How different? Well, you’ll just have to wait until its published to find that out, but I’m pretty sure it’s an uncommon viewpoint. My outline is actually pretty detailed, so I’ll only have to flesh out the description and I have my story. I don’t know if I’ll manage another critique session before I move. Probably not, but I’m sure the UW won’t mind sending me some notes on it.

In other news, there’s a position available at the college I’ll be attending this fall that is right up my alley. As many of you know, I’m going in for the Event Management Program. Well, it turns out that the Student Association is looking for some Promo Team members, people that promote their events and activities. So I’ve spent pretty much all day working on a fresh, dynamic resume and a matching cover letter. It’s only casual work (5-6 hours/wk), which is exactly what I’m looking for when I go to school. The job would be a perfect add to my resume as it is directly related to my field. It also makes me look like an active member of the college, which is a leg-up for scholarships and bursaries.

It’s all one more step toward accomplishing my dreams (getting published and running a horror convention). Speaking of steps, here’s this week’s goals:

  • Finish first draft of Haunted Doll Story
  • Apply for job with SA Promo Team
  • Finish reading and critiquing Steph’s novel
  • Read and critique this week’s UW submissions
