As the Eastern Conference Championship has been decided, so too is the top Canadian Soccer Team of 2016. Although possible that a blow-out loss in the MLS Final on December 10th could overturn this result, Toronto FC are solidly above the Canadian competition. Let’s have a quick look.

There really isn’t too much to say. The opening salvo of the MLS Eastern Conference Finals saw Montreal Impact perform not only in front of a sell-out crowd, it also saw one of the most exciting soccer matches to grace Canada or the United States all year. With heavy competition, dramatic play, and even a handful of Canadian players on the field, the first leg saw the underdogs coming out on top with a 3-2 victory.

Not to be outdone, the second leg featured a sell-out crowd in Toronto, with numerous standing-room-only tickets sold. Although the only change in the starting lineup was swapping Johnson for Osorio, a Canadian for a Canadian, the match fell a little differently. At full time, Toronto led 3-2, bringing the aggregate of the two matches to a tie.

30 minutes of extended time were added to the clock, and they did not disappoint. Both teams fought hard for control, and Giovinco went down injured (reports say he’s ok, will play Dec 10). Only moments later, Toronto would put one in Montreal’s net. A minute after that, Ricketts, of Edmonton, AB, would put a second one away and seal the deal for Toronto.

Drogba cried. Toronto went insane. And the 2016 Top Canadian Soccer Teams Elo-ratings would crown Toronto the champions. Only 1 match remains: the MLS Final. Toronto FC will host the Seattle Sounders FC on December 10th at 5:00 Pacific / 8:00 Eastern. Set up your watch parties now, it’s going to be superb.
