With last night’s match between Sporting Kansas City and Independiente, the quarterfinals for the CONCACAF Champions League have come to a close. All of the elo-rating “favourites” have advanced to the semi-finals.
UANL Tigres and Santos Laguna will meet up in the semi-finals. These two squads won both of their quarterfinal matches against the MLS’ Houston Dynamo and New York Red Bulls, respectively.
Sporting Kansas City and Monterray, who both lost their away legs, will be put head to head. Monterray is the far-and-away favourite, with 250 elo rating points between them and the Americans. Additionally, Sporting’s initial loss to Independiente in the quarterfinals highlights that there may be some issues the team will need to deal with if they’re going to pull a David over Monterray’s Goliath.
